Beginners

Italian imageThis 20-hour course for complete beginners is designed to offer an introduction to the Italian language. The course features some communicative exercises to help students form basic sentences and to exchange information about themselves.

The main skills to be aimed at are speaking and listening, complemented by some basic writing and reading. The syllabus stages to be completed are:

  • Simple greetings and use of formal and informal;
  • Numbers and dates: days and months;
  • Buying drinks and food;
  • Learning about paying and how to shop;
  • More numbers and telling the time, dates;
  • Buying clothes and describing material;
  • Hotel room bookings;
  • Basic phone calls and letters;
  • Describing family and friends and home environment;
  • Holidays, studies, plans.

Grammatical structures to be introduced and practiced are present tenses, adjectives, some pronouns and specific vocabulary.

Conversation

Italian imageThis course is designed as a 1-hour per week guided conversation class for students above Lower Intermediate level to revise and consolidate their communicative skills (listening & speaking).

The class will consist of a mixed group of students who can communicate beyond basic ability (A1, or near equivalent) and who wish to brush up on their language skills and/or add oral practice to any other course they are already attending.

At Intermediate A2 level, the minimum requirements for this course are that students have studied the language for 1 or 2 years and are familiar with the present and past tenses.

The aims of the course are to increase vocabulary and to develop communicative confidence.

Materials will be designed depending on the needs of the group. Topics will include conversations on daily life, current affairs, and society & culture.
