ESRC Parliamentary Academic Fellowship
College's ESRC IAA supports academics to participate in the Parliamentary Academic Fellowship Scheme run by the Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology (POST). The Scheme offers academics from different subject areas and at any career stage the opportunity to work on a project in Parliament.
The current open call run by POST enables academics to propose a project of their choosing. The Scheme delivers opportunities for researchers to forge useful and lasting connections with decision makers in Parliament and to learn about how research feeds into practice and the challenges faced by decision-makers. Further information can be found within the guidance document, including how to ensure your proposed fellowship is relevant to Parliament. The outline application deadline for this scheme is midnight 4 September 2017.
It is not necessary that the impact activities proposed relate specifically to individual research projects or studentships previously funded by ESRC, nor do individuals need to have been supported by ESRC in the past. However, supported fellowships must be able to demonstrate how they will create impact and influence policy from social science research that has been conducted within the remit of ESRC. For further information on the remit of ESRC please see http://www.esrc.ac.uk/about-esrc/what-is-social-science/ or discuss with the ESRC IAA contact, Dr Louise Sherlock, if you are unclear about whether the fundamental research on which the impact activity will be based was in ESRC remit.
How to apply
The application is a two-stage process: the outline stage requires IAA sign off as acknowledgement that it has been discussed and has agreement in principal to be funded. You must therefore discuss your proposal with Dr Sherlock prior to application to POST. If you are invited to the detailed proposal stage, the Cross-College Research Proposals Review Group (CCRPRG) will review an expanded version of your proposal for final approval to fund your fellowship. If this is awarded, you will also get IAA sign off on the detailed application for firm confirmation of funding.
