Get active - no hassle

If you want to get into sport, or just play for fun then our Be Active programme Impetus is for you!

Impetus is our offering of recreational sports here at Imperial and provides a range of activities: from one-off taster sessions and weekly drop-in sessions to organised intramural sports. The programme is open to all students and staff of any ability and is a great way to meet new people and try new sports.

Please note, Impetus only runs during term-time, however this year we have introduced a reduced summer schedule. See what's on.

Please note, we are reviewing the programme & changes will be made ready for the next academic year starting from 1 October 2017, we recommend waiting until the programme is released before enquiring about Impetus Membership.

Frequently asked questions

How do I sign up to Impetus?

Simply head along to Ethos Sports Centre and the reception will be able to add your Impetus membership onto your college ID card and you can start attending sessions straight away! Once you have registered, you will be required to swipe at reception each time you go to an Impetus session so please remember to bring your card with you!

How much does it cost?

An impetus membership is £15 per academic year which needs to be paid in full before you can attend any sessions. This £15 will allow you access to the whole recreational programme including intramural sport. You will also receive a free water bottle and Impetus t-shirt for you to wear at the sessions!

Do I need to book in advance?

To participate in ‘drop in’ sessions you can turn up as and when you can so no need to book, however we would recommend arriving as early as you can to sessions as some of the sessions will have a maximum capacity so to ensure you can take part, please arrive in plenty of time.

To participate in ‘Intramural sport’ you will be required to sign up as a team at the start of each term to participate. If you would like to more information on intramural sport please click here (link to intramural page).

What are intramural sports?

Intramural sport has been added to the Impetus programme this year following feedback from year one. Intramural sport is internal casual sports league open for teams to enter to as halls of residences, academic departments and social groups. Teams enter via our intramural page here. The league will begin from the start of each term, with a final being played during the last week of term. Games will be adapted to meet the demand of the league to allow maximum participation.

To compete in Term 1 sign up here now. Term 2 sign-ups will open from December 2015. Term 3 sign-ups will open from March 2016.

Please note: Intramural football is self-organised by students and does not require you to pay the Impetus registration fee to particpate.
